Tietoa tästä mahdollisuudesta

This research opportunity focuses on developing sustainable Aloe vera cultivation and hydrosol processing systems specifically adapted to Mediterranean microclimates. The project addresses the growing demand for high-quality aloe products while establishing environmentally responsible production methods. Located in Portugal’s Algarve region, the research will leverage unique coastal Mediterranean conditions characterized by mild winters, warm summers, and specific humidity patterns ideal for aloe cultivation. The research encompasses three interconnected phases: propagation optimization, seasonal growth analysis, and hydrosol production enhancement. Initial work will focus on establishing propagation protocols that maximize plant survival and vigor in Mediterranean soil conditions, testing various cutting techniques, rooting hormones, and substrate compositions. Simultaneously, comprehensive monitoring of plant growth cycles will track biomass accumulation, gel content variations, and bioactive compound concentrations throughout seasonal transitions. The hydrosol production component will develop innovative extraction methods that preserve delicate aromatic compounds while maximizing yield efficiency. Advanced distillation techniques will be tested to produce pharmaceutical-grade hydrosols with enhanced therapeutic properties. Water conservation strategies will be integrated throughout, addressing regional water scarcity concerns while maintaining optimal plant health. The research will establish baseline data for commercial cultivation feasibility, including economic analysis of production costs, yield projections, and market potential. Collaboration between Portuguese institutions and Mediterranean research centers will ensure knowledge transfer and application across similar climatic regions, contributing to sustainable agricultural development in water-limited environments.
