Hillside Apiary is our in-house beekeeping operation using Flow Hive technology — an innovative system that allows honey to be harvested directly from the hive without disturbing the bees. Our Flow Hive 2 cedar hives sit within dedicated pollinator corridors across the property, surrounded by wildflower meadows, cork oak woodland, and aloe vera plantings.
The Flow Frame system means guests can watch honey flowing directly into jars — a gentle, bee-friendly harvest that produces single-origin, unblended honey unique to our Algarve hillside terroir. Each hive tells a seasonal story through its honey: spring cistus and rosemary, summer lavender and wildflower, autumn eucalyptus and carob.
Beyond honey production, our apiary serves as a living classroom for pollinator ecology research, supporting the Pollinator Corridors & Apiary Ecology research partnership. Guests can participate in hive inspections, learn about bee behaviour, and take home a jar of Hillside honey as part of their stay.
